Louise Lever
Louise Lever is an award-winning filmmaker based in Melbourne, Australia. She makes films through her production company Louise Lever Pictures. Louise prioritises the female gaze and LGBTQIA+ stories in her work.
Her latest short film Joey's Heart was selected to have its World Premiere at BFI Flare Film Festival in 2023. Starring Angela Bloomfield as Joey, the film is about an unlucky-in-love lesbian, who thinks she'll never find her someone special. Joey’s Heart received a Post Production Grant from the NZFC in 2023 and has screened at prestigious film festivals around the globe including the Roze FilmDagen in Amsterdam and won the Director's Choice Award at Cinema Diverse: The Palm Springs LGBTQ+ Film Festival.
Louise made the feature documentary film Revolt She Said – a portrait of contemporary perspectives on the feminist movement, which was released in 2020. The film features Former Prime Minister of New Zealand Helen Clark and award-winning journalist Alison Mau. It has screened on TVNZ on Demand, Rialto Channel and been selected to film festivals such as Portland Film Festival and the New York Independent Film Festival.
Louise is currently working on her feature narrative film project called Infatuation, which she has written and will also direct. In August 2025, she filmed a short Proof of Concept for this film with local actors, DOP Martine Wolff, and worked collaboratively with Alicia Gardiner, both as an actor and script consultant.
