JOEY’S HEART is about Joey, a self-described gay Bridget Jones type, who thinks she’ll never find her someone special. Then she meets Alice. Will her fortunes change?
Starring one of New Zealand’s most loved actors Angela Bloomfield as Joey, supported by Jess Sayer, Holly Hudson and Renee Sheridan. Joey's Heart premiered at BFI Flare in 2023, and Louise travelled to London to attend the screening. Since then, it has screened at prominent film festivals including Roze FilmDagen in Amsterdam and Setting Sun Film Festival in Australia.
Directors statement.
JOEY’S HEART explores the gradients of emotional connection and the human heart. We all need each other. I wanted to make a light-hearted love story for the LBGT+ community, where I could channel some of my own personal experiences into the script.
I don’t see myself reflected in screen often. There aren’t many lesbian stories with mature women in their 30s/40s and so I made the kind of film I would have liked to see when I was younger and growing up. This film is a subtle portrayal of loneliness, hope and connection, and I made this film for others who would like to see lesbian love stories that reflect our us.
