REVOLT SHE SAID (2020, AUS/NZ), DIR. Louise Lever
A portrait of contemporary feminism, featuring interviews with prominent figures in the movement, Former Prime Minister of New Zealand Helen Clark and award-winning journalist Alison Mau. Unflinching personal accounts and coming out stories from the LGBTQIA+ community are shared, as the film explores themes of identity, gender politics, queer identity, power and women’s roles.
An independent feature documentary film that considers why feminism hasn’t shifted the needle far enough on issues that affect us all today. Why are women still protesting and fighting for equal rights and autonomy over their own bodies. The film was reviewed by Contemporary Hum by Frances Loeffler and WIFT NZ interviewed Louise about the film, so you can also read that interview here. Louise was featured on RNZ and talked to Jessie Mulligan and you can listen to that interview online.
Directors statement.
REVOLT SHE SAID explores why feminism hasn't progressed far enough and why women are still fighting for basic equality and human rights. I loved being able to speak to so many women during the filming of this documentary and to have my perspective constantly changing and evolving. I am honoured to be entrusted with the real life stories of each, and every person, interviewed for this film.
